The American Exploration & Mining Association, a 121-year-old, national association of more than 2,000 members representing the minerals industry, honored PolyMet’s project with its annual Environmental Excellence Award last week.

We’re proud AEMA recognizes the diligent work of our employees, who have put together a sound plan to protect the environment while creating good jobs and producing needed minerals. State and federal agencies approved the project’s environmental review last year and who are now working through the permitting process.

According to the AEMA, it selected us for the award specifically because of how we will responsibly develop our project, including reusing and revitalizing the former LTV Steel plant and tailings basin.

AEMA Board Members Tour Plant July 2016

AEMA board members toured the former LTV Steel plant and visited our project site last summer. They were especially impressed with how we plan to implement state-of-the-art technologies and techniques to improve employee safety and maintain high environmental standards.

As AEMA says, “The PolyMet project defines modern mining, and the plan proves that high standards lead to a successful business model to benefit employees, their families, the projects’ communities and their shareholders.”

Congratulations to our employees on this very important recognition, and continued appreciation to our supporters. We’ll keep you posted on other developments (and awards) as we continue moving forward.
