It was a big day for us at PolyMet Mining: The first public comment meeting for the supplemental draft Environmental Impact Statement took place yesterday in Duluth.

More than 1,500 people came to the event at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. Our team is humbled by the tremendous support for our project at this meeting, and we thank everyone for their constructive, thoughtful and civil comments. We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout or way to kick off the public meetings, which are being led by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

We’d like to share with you a few news recaps:

Our supporters recognize that it’s not a matter of should we mine or shouldn’t we; but rather, how can we make this the best possible mine. These metals have to come from somewhere, and we have the opportunity to mine them here in Minnesota where we have some of the strictest environmental standards in the country

Upcoming public hearings: mark your calendar

There will be two more public hearings as part of the 90-day public comment period (which ends March 13):

  • Aurora, MN – Wednesday, January 22
Mesabi East High School (Get Directions)
  • St. Paul – Tuesday, January 28
    Saint Paul RiverCentre (Get Directions)

We look forward to continuing the momentum from this first meeting. Here’s to more productive, civil conversations about how we can move Minnesota Mining forward!
